Short answer: several forex brokers licensed by the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) list M-Pesa, but not all of them, and the details differ by broker and by the company that holds your account. On November 3, 2026 we could confirm M-Pesa on an official broker page for three of the 16 CMA-licensed companies: Exness, FXPesa and Pepperstone. For the other 13 we could not confirm it, so the table says "check the broker's site". Treat that as "unknown", not "no". Before you pay, confirm the method, limits, fees and currency inside your own client area.

What "accepts M-Pesa" means in practice
A broker's website may say "M-Pesa" even though the money does not travel the same way in every case. There are three setups you may meet.
| Setup | How it looks to you | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Direct Paybill or Till | You get a Paybill or Till number and an account reference, and you pay from the M-Pesa menu or app | The business name shown on the confirmation screen, and the reference you must enter |
| Prompt on your phone (STK push) | You enter your phone number on the broker's page and approve a PIN prompt | That the number is registered in your own name |
| Through a payment processor | The broker hands you to a third-party checkout that supports M-Pesa | The processor's name on your M-Pesa statement, its fees, and who you contact if the payment stalls |
Two other points matter just as much as the payment screen:
- Account currency. M-Pesa holds Kenyan shillings (KES). Many forex accounts are held in US dollars, so your shillings are converted when you deposit and converted back when you withdraw. The exchange rate used is part of your cost. Ask whether a KES account exists and which rate the broker or processor applies.
- Which company holds your account. Many brokers run one company in Kenya and others elsewhere. A payment method that works for the Kenyan company may not exist for a group company abroad. The client agreement tells you which one you are contracting with.
Which CMA-licensed brokers list M-Pesa?
The company names below are the CMA's, from the register checked on November 3, 2026 (licensees.cma.or.ke). The last column records only what we could read on an official page that day. A broker can add or drop a method at any time.
| Licensed company (CMA) | CMA category | M-Pesa listed on the broker's official page? |
|---|---|---|
| Exness KE Limited | Non-dealing | Yes: exness.ke deposits and withdrawals. See our Exness M-Pesa guide |
| EGM Securities Limited ("FX Pesa") | Non-dealing | Yes, for funding: the FXPesa homepage mentions "mobile money like M-Pesa". Withdrawals: check the broker's site |
| Pepperstone Markets Kenya Limited | Non-dealing | Yes: Pepperstone's Africa funding page lists "MPESA (Kenya only)" for deposits and withdrawals. That page shows USD or GBP accounts; confirm the entity serving you |
| SCFM Limited ("Scope Markets") | Non-dealing | Check the broker's site |
| Exinity Capital East Africa Limited | Non-dealing | Check the broker's site |
| HFM Investments Limited ("HF Markets") | Non-dealing | Check the broker's site |

Why so many "check" cells? Several broker sites block automated page reads or show the payment list only after you log in. We did not guess. If a broker says M-Pesa is available, ask it in writing (live chat or email) which Paybill or processor is used, the minimum and maximum, the fees, and the currency of your account. For account types, spreads and platforms, see the Kenya comparison.
How an M-Pesa deposit and withdrawal usually works
The exact screens differ by broker. The sequence is usually this:
- Open and verify the account. Brokers licensed in Kenya must identify you before you can fully fund and withdraw. See our verification guide for the typical documents.
- Open the deposit page in your client area and choose M-Pesa from the list. If it is not on the list, it is not available to you; do not look for a workaround.
- Enter the amount and, if asked, your M-Pesa phone number. Check the amount in the account currency and, if shown, the converted amount in KES.
- Approve the payment. Either you pay to a Paybill or Till number with the account reference shown, or you approve the PIN prompt on your phone. Read the business name on the M-Pesa screen before entering your PIN.
- Wait for the broker's confirmation. Keep the M-Pesa confirmation SMS. If the balance does not update, send the transaction code to the broker's support. Do not pay twice.
- Withdraw. Request a withdrawal from the client area. Most brokers send the money back to the same method and the same name you used to deposit; see the section on the withdrawal rule below.
On timing: processing time depends on the payment provider and the broker's checks. Brokers' own pages describe M-Pesa as fast, but nobody can promise a specific arrival time. Exness says most are processed automatically, but this is not guaranteed. Pepperstone's funding page lists up to 1 business day for withdrawals by MPESA.
Safaricom limits to know before you deposit
Safaricom publishes the M-Pesa limits for personal accounts on its Consumer Tariffs & Limits page (last updated by Safaricom on August 4, 2026; we read it on November 3, 2026).
| Limit | Amount stated by Safaricom |
|---|---|
| Maximum amount per transaction | KES 250,000 |
| Maximum daily transaction limit | KES 500,000 |
| Maximum M-Pesa account balance | KES 500,000 |
The broker may also set its own minimum and maximum for M-Pesa, which can be lower. Your account type has a minimum deposit too, and it is not always the same as the payment method's minimum. Compare the lowest of these figures, not just the headline minimum. If you need to move more than the daily cap, you have to split it across days or use another method the broker lists for you; ask the broker rather than splitting payments in ways that look unusual.
What an M-Pesa deposit can cost
Three costs can apply. They are separate, so check each one:
- Safaricom's charges. Safaricom's tariff page lists charges for sending money to M-Pesa users and for withdrawing at agents, by amount band. It gives deposits at an agent as free. It does not show a separate Paybill line for personal customers, so read the fee shown on the M-Pesa confirmation screen before you approve.
- The broker's or processor's fee. Some brokers say they charge no deposit fee; for example, Pepperstone's funding page states that deposits are free. A processor may add its own fee, so check the amount you are asked to pay against the amount credited.
- Currency conversion. If the account is in USD, the rate between KES and USD is a cost even when no fee is shown. Compare the rate with a published mid-market rate on the day. A gap of 1% to 2% on every deposit and withdrawal adds up.
A practical test: write down the KES you pay, the USD you receive, and the date. Then compare with a public exchange rate. You will see your real cost, not the advertised one.
The withdrawal rule: back to the same method
Most brokers return money to the method and the name used to deposit, as an anti-money-laundering control. That affects M-Pesa in two ways:
- Deposit with the M-Pesa number registered in your own name. The deposit and withdrawal names need to match the name on your trading account. Pepperstone, for example, states on its funding page that it cannot accept third-party payments and can return funds only to an account or card in the same name as the trading account. Other brokers have similar wording; check your broker's terms.
- Plan for profits and losses separately. If the broker sends withdrawals back to M-Pesa, the Safaricom per-transaction and daily caps above apply on the way out as well.
Paying from someone else's phone, or from an agent's number, can cause the payment to be rejected or delayed, and in the worst case it puts your funds at risk.
Safety checklist before you send money
Run through these in order. If any answer is "no" or "not sure", stop.
- Is the company on the CMA register? Search the exact name on licensees.cma.or.ke in the non-dealing or dealing online foreign exchange broker category. Steps are in our Kenya guide.
- Does the client agreement name that company? Many brands also run companies in other countries with different regulators.
- Does the name on the M-Pesa confirmation match the licensed company or its stated processor? If the payee is a person, not a business, do not pay.
- Are you paying only through the client area or the broker's official website? Never send money to a personal phone number, an agent's number, or an account given to you in a chat.
- Is someone offering to "manage" your account, share signals or guarantee returns? Those are common scams. A licensed broker's staff do not need your password, PIN or one-time code, and nobody can promise profits.
- Have you tested with a small amount first? Deposit the smallest amount that works, check it arrives, and test the withdrawal path before adding more.
- Do you have records? Keep the M-Pesa SMS, the screenshots and the broker's email for every deposit and withdrawal.
If a broker is not on the CMA list, treat it as not licensed by the CMA to offer online forex trading in Kenya.
Exness and M-Pesa: where to read our checked details
Exness KE Limited is on the CMA register, and exness.ke lists M-Pesa on its deposits and withdrawals page (checked November 3, 2026). We keep the detail on separate pages so this comparison stays neutral:
- Exness M-Pesa guide: what we verified on Exness's pages, the rules that cause payments to fail, and what to do about a pending payment.
- Exness Kenya: account types and conditions: the Kenyan company, account types and conditions.
What is available to you, and at what limits, is shown only in your own Personal Area.

Frequently asked questions
Which forex brokers accept M-Pesa in Kenya?
On November 3, 2026, official pages we could read listed M-Pesa for Exness, FXPesa and Pepperstone. Other CMA-licensed brokers may also support it; check each broker's site and your client area. See the table above.
What are the best forex brokers in Kenya with M-Pesa?
There is no single best broker for everyone. Begin with the CMA-licensed list, then compare M-Pesa support for both deposits and withdrawals, limits, fees, account currency, spreads and platforms. Our Kenya comparison covers the rest.
Can I do forex trading in Kenya using M-Pesa?
Yes, where your broker lists it. The CMA licenses online foreign exchange brokers, and some of them let you fund an account with M-Pesa. Check that the company is on the CMA register and that M-Pesa is shown in your own client area before you deposit.
Is there an M-Pesa forex deposit limit?
Yes, at two levels. Safaricom limits personal M-Pesa to KES 250,000 per transaction and KES 500,000 per day. The broker may set lower limits for M-Pesa. Both apply.
Do I pay a fee to deposit with M-Pesa?
Possibly. Safaricom's charges, the broker's or processor's fee, and the KES-to-USD conversion can each apply. Check the amounts on the confirmation screen and compare what you paid with what was credited.
Can I withdraw to M-Pesa?
Only if the broker lists M-Pesa for withdrawals. Most brokers pay back to the same method and name used to deposit. Withdrawal times depend on the payment provider and the broker's checks, so no time is guaranteed.
Can I use someone else's M-Pesa number to fund my account?
No. Brokers generally accept payments only from accounts in the client's own name. A payment from another person's number can be rejected or returned.
Do M-Pesa payments make a broker safer?
No. The payment method says nothing about whether the broker is licensed. Check the CMA register and your client agreement first.
Risk warning
Forex and CFD trading involves a high risk of losing money. Leverage magnifies losses as well as gains. Before you open an account:
- Use only money you can afford to lose.
- Practise on a demo account first. See our Exness demo account guide.
- Start with a small deposit and test a withdrawal before you add more.
- Never share your M-Pesa PIN, passwords or one-time codes, including with people claiming to be broker staff.
