Short answer: Exness and Deriv are both online retail brokers that serve clients through separately licensed group companies, but they are built around different products. Exness centres on CFDs on forex, metals, energies, indices, stocks and crypto, with MT4, MT5 and its own platforms. Deriv offers CFDs too (on TradingView, Deriv MT5 and Deriv cTrader) and is known for Derived Indices that trade 24/7, plus other trade types. If you want to trade currency pairs and gold with several account types, Exness is the closer match. If you want Derived Indices or built-in copy trading, look at Deriv. Neither is better for everyone.
Exness figures come from the Exness Help Center and exness.com. Deriv figures come from deriv.com pages (regulatory and CFD pages), checked on October 27, 2026. Where Deriv does not state a number on those pages, we say so rather than guess. Conditions depend on the company serving your country.

Products: forex CFDs versus Derived Indices
Exness offers spot CFDs with no expiry on forex pairs, metals such as gold, energies, indices, stocks and crypto, subject to account type and region. Its instrument list is built from real markets.
Deriv's CFD page lists stocks, forex, commodities and Derived Indices, which are simulated markets that trade around the clock. Derived Indices are not tied to a real-world asset in the way that EUR/USD or gold is, so news, fundamentals and market hours matter less for them. Deriv also lists other trade types beyond CFDs on its site; check deriv.com for the trade types available in your country, as we have not reviewed them here.
If your plan is to trade currency pairs and metals using technical or news-based analysis, the Exness list covers it directly. If you want a market that does not close at weekends, Derived Indices are the reason many people look at Deriv. Treat them with caution: they can move quickly, and high leverage magnifies losses.
Account types and costs
Exness offers five account types. Standard and Standard Cent have no commission; Pro has none and instant execution on some symbols (delays and slippage can occur; speed and accuracy are not guaranteed); Raw Spread and Zero charge commission for lower spreads. See account types, fees and spreads and the spread list.
Deriv describes standard, swap-free and zero-spread accounts for CFDs and says CFD trading is commission-free. Spread levels, the minimum deposit and any other charges are not on the pages we checked, so compare live prices on a demo account before depositing with either broker. The fair test is to record EUR/USD and XAU/USD spreads on both at the same times of day.
Platforms
- Exness: MT4, MT5, the web-based Exness Terminal and the Exness Trade app. See our MT5 download guide.
- Deriv: TradingView for charting, Deriv MT5, and Deriv cTrader, which Deriv describes as including copy trading facilities.
Exness ended its copy and social trading on June 25, 2026, so if you want copy trading, this is a real difference.
Leverage and risk controls
Exness offers up to 1:2000 for equity below USD 30,000, 1:1000 from USD 30,000, 1:500 from USD 100,000, and unlimited leverage on eligible accounts under USD 5,000. Stop out is 0% for most clients, 20% for the Kenya and Jordan entities. Deriv advertises leverage up to 1:1000 on CFDs. Both are very high compared with limits in many regulated markets. Leverage amplifies losses as much as gains. Read Exness leverage and the stop out guide. Both brokers describe protection against a negative balance.
Regulation: different group structures
Both are groups of separately licensed companies, so the licence that counts is the one held by the company in your client agreement.
- Exness: operates through several group companies authorised by different financial regulators. The company that serves you is named in your client agreement and in the footer of your Personal Area. Check the current list on Exness's regulation page and confirm it on the regulator's own register. See the regulation guide.
- Deriv: its regulatory page says the group has served traders since 1999 and lists subsidiaries including Deriv (BVI) Ltd (BVI FSC), Deriv Investments (Cayman) Limited (Cayman Islands Monetary Authority), Deriv (Mauritius) Ltd (Mauritius FSC), Deriv (V) Ltd (Vanuatu FSC), Deriv (FX) Ltd (Labuan FSA) and several others, and says it is registered with the Financial Commission, a dispute-resolution body.
Open the client agreement, find the entity, and check the regulator's own register. See Is Exness regulated? for how.
Deposits and withdrawals
Exness says it charges no processing fee on deposits and withdrawals, though banks and providers may; payments must come from accounts in your name; methods vary by registered region. See deposit and withdrawal, withdrawal time, M-Pesa and UPI. For Deriv, we did not verify its payment method list or limits; check its cashier in your country.
