Short answer: Exness lists the Hong Kong dollar (HKD) as an account currency for Standard, Pro, Raw Spread and Zero accounts, and its support team works in Chinese around the clock. Hong Kong is not named in Exness's footer list of countries it does not serve, so you can start registration and let the country form decide. Hong Kong also has a clear licensing rule: the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) licenses firms that offer leveraged foreign exchange trading, and we found no SFC listing for Exness.

Exness's own footer, checked the same day, names the USA, Canada, Iran, North Korea, Europe, the UK, Russia and Belarus "and others"; Hong Kong is not named. We did not open an account from Hong Kong.

Does Exness accept clients from Hong Kong?
Exness does not publish a country-by-country list, and Hong Kong is not among the countries named in its footer. The registration form is the final check. Exness asks for proof of identity (a government-issued ID with photo) and proof of address dated within six months and showing the country where you permanently live. An ID card cannot double as proof of address, so a utility bill or bank statement is the usual route. If you live in Hong Kong but hold a passport from another country, the Help Center says the identity document does not have to be issued where you live, only that it is officially issued and still valid for three months after upload.
Is Exness regulated in Hong Kong?
Under Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Ordinance, a firm that offers leveraged foreign exchange trading needs a Type 3 licence from the SFC. The SFC says clients who trade through unregulated entities, in Hong Kong or overseas, do not get the protection they would have with a licensed firm. It also publishes an alert list of suspicious platforms.
What that means for Exness:
- We found no Exness entry on the SFC public register. Search the register yourself by company name, because the SFC site is the authority.
- Exness operates through group companies authorised by regulators in other jurisdictions. The company that serves you is named in your client agreement and in the footer of your Personal Area. Check the list on Exness's regulation page and confirm it on that regulator's own register. More in Exness regulation.
- Seeing a firm described as "regulated" is not enough; ask which regulator and whether it covers Hong Kong residents.
Hong Kong also has no foreign-exchange controls that we are aware of, so moving HKD in and out of a bank account is not restricted the way it is on the mainland. That does not change the licensing question above.
Choosing an account currency: HKD or USD
The Help Center lists HKD for all four main account types. The currency cannot be changed once the account is created, and conversions apply when a deposit or withdrawal is in a different currency.
HKD is linked to the US dollar within a narrow band set by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), around 7.75 to 7.85 per dollar, so converting a HKD account to dollars while trading dollar-quoted instruments adds little exchange-rate noise. Even so, costs add up. An illustration at an assumed USD 1 = HKD 7.80:
| Item | USD | HKD |
|---|---|---|
| Pro, Raw Spread or Zero first deposit (at least USD 200, depending on region) | 200 | 1,560 |
| Raw Spread commission on XAUUSD, per side per lot (USD 3.5) | 3.5 | 27.3 |
| Zero commission on XAUUSD, per side per lot (USD 5.5) | 5.5 | 42.9 |
| 1 USD move on a 0.01-lot gold position | 1 | 7.8 |
Standard and Standard Cent have lower first-deposit minimums that depend on the payment method and region. Exness accepts payments only from accounts in your own name, and the Deposit tab in your Personal Area shows what is offered for Hong Kong. See Exness minimum deposit.
Support in Chinese
The Help Center says support specialists are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week in English, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Arabic, Hindi and Urdu. Open a ticket in the support hub (reply within 24 hours) or start live chat after login. We could not confirm whether written Traditional Chinese is covered, so ask for it in your first message. See customer support.
Hong Kong trading hours (HKT, UTC+8)
| Session | Opens (Hong Kong time) |
|---|---|
| Tokyo | about 08:00 |
| London | about 15:00 or 16:00, depending on UK daylight saving |
| New York | about 20:00 or 21:00, depending on US daylight saving |
Hong Kong sits in the same slot as the Asian session, so the early hours are quiet for dollar pairs and busier for yen and Australian dollar pairs. The London and New York overlap runs through the evening, which suits people who work office hours. US data, such as non-farm payrolls, usually arrives at about 20:30 or 21:30. The week closes around dawn on Saturday. See Exness trading hours.
Demo first
A demo account uses virtual money. After registration, a Standard MT5 demo with a default USD 10,000 balance appears under My Accounts; MT4 demos are also available. Use it to test lot sizes: a 0.01-lot XAUUSD position is about one ounce, so each USD 1 move is about USD 1 (HKD 7.8 at the illustrative rate). Steps: Exness demo account.
