Exness Sri Lanka: Demo, Deposit in LKR and Legal Status (2026)

Short answer: To use Exness from Sri Lanka you register with your email and Sri Lankan mobile number, verify your identity and address, and choose a demo or live account. The Sri Lankan rupee (LKR) is not on Exness's list of account currencies, so a live account is held in USD or another listed currency, and money is converted when you deposit and withdraw. Is Exness legal in Sri Lanka?

CBSL has published notices on online forex trading. Its 2019 notice warned that unauthorised online forex platforms and dealers had appeared, said residents are not permitted to carry out forex trading transactions outside the approved framework, and cited the Foreign Exchange Act, No. 12 of 2017. CBSL said it may act against both promoters and participants. Earlier notices (2012) were issued under the Exchange Control Act. Read the current wording on the CBSL website and take advice from a Sri Lankan lawyer if you are unsure how it applies to you.

Exness operates through several group companies authorised by different financial regulators around the world. The company that serves you is named in your client agreement and in the footer of your Personal Area. How to open an Exness account from Sri Lanka

1. Register. Enter your email and a password, tick the box confirming you are not a US citizen or resident, and enter a partner code if you have one. Exness asks for an active email address and a mobile number that works in your country of residence (registration guide).

LKR, USD and the cost of converting

Because LKR is not an Exness account currency, a Sri Lankan trader funding a USD account pays the exchange rate and any fee set by the bank or payment provider, both on the way in and on the way out. A simple illustration with an assumed rate, not a quote: at USD 1 = LKR 300, LKR 15,000 buys USD 50. If the rate moves to LKR 320 when you withdraw, the same USD 50 returns LKR 16,000 even with zero trading profit. That swing comes from the currency, not from your trades. Decide in advance whether you track results in dollars or rupees, and check the fee shown before confirming any deposit.

Swap and Islamic-style trading

Exness lists 33 countries whose clients get swap-free status on every instrument automatically. Sri Lanka is not one of them. Swap-free is nevertheless on by default for eligible instruments, and an overnight administrative fee may apply on some. Check the contract specification before holding a position for days. Trading hours in Sri Lanka time

On Exness, major and minor forex pairs trade from Sunday 21:05 UTC to Friday 20:55 UTC, which is about 02:35 on Monday to 02:25 on Saturday in Sri Lanka, all year (the UTC times do not change with summer time). London and New York overlap for about four hours, roughly 18:30 to 22:30 Sri Lanka time in winter, which is when major pairs and gold are usually most active. Many people work in the daytime and trade this evening window, so set a fixed stop time and a daily loss limit. Tax

Income tax in Sri Lanka is administered by the Inland Revenue Department (ird.gov.lk). We found no page that addresses profits from offshore CFD trading, so ask a Sri Lankan tax adviser how gains and remittances are treated. Keep dated records of every deposit and withdrawal with the rupee value.

Risk management for a first month

Use the demo for at least a few weeks. Write down the maximum you will risk per trade (many beginners cap it at 1% of the account), the maximum loss per day, and what you will do after three losing trades in a row.
