Short answer: Costa Rica is not named in the list of places Exness says it does not serve, so you can try choosing Costa Rica at registration and open a free demo account. The colon (CRC) is not an Exness account currency, so you hold a US dollar account and the conversion happens at your bank or provider. Costa Rica's securities regulator, Sugeval, has a published notice saying forex trading offers are outside its regulation, so protections are those of the entity named in your Exness client agreement. Spanish support is not listed.

Sources: the Exness Help Center (account currencies, first-time deposits, verification documents, contact, swap-free status, trading-hours update for the end of US daylight saving time), checked November 3, 2026; the Exness website footer, checked November 3, 2026; the Sugeval alerts page and its "Comunicado Forex" PDF (sugeval.fi.cr), read November 3, 2026. We did not open a Costa Rican account, did not test deposits and could not read a current colon reference rate from the Banco Central de Costa Rica.

Is Exness available in Costa Rica?

The footer of the Exness website says the entities listed there do not offer services to residents of certain jurisdictions, including the USA, Canada, Iran, North Korea, Europe, the United Kingdom, Russia and Belarus, "and others". Costa Rica is not named, but the list is open, so the country menu in the registration form is the final check. If you can select Costa Rica, you can create a Personal Area and a demo account.

Exness decides by where you permanently and lawfully live. A Costa Rican living in the United States or Spain registers from that country with documents from there. We do not suggest choosing a country where you do not live.

Colones and dollars: how to check a quote

The account currency cannot be changed after the account is created, and Exness applies conversion when a deposit or withdrawal currency differs from it. With a USD account, colones are converted by your bank or payment provider. The Help Center advises depositing in the currency of your trading account, or checking the conversion rate first.

The Banco Central de Costa Rica publishes a reference buy rate and a reference sell rate for the US dollar on its indicators portal, but we could not read the current numbers during our check, so this page gives none. To judge a quote:

  1. Take the colones you plan to send and divide them by the rate at which your bank sells dollars. The result is the dollars that arrive.
  2. Compare that selling rate with the central bank's reference sell rate on the day. The difference is your bank's margin.
  3. Compare the selling rate with the rate at which the bank buys dollars back. That gap is the cost of a round trip before any trade.

Write the rate down for every deposit and withdrawal and judge your result in colones if that is what you live on.

Deposits and withdrawals

The Help Center does not publish payment methods by country. The Deposit tab in your Personal Area lists what is available to you with minimum and maximum limits and processing times. Payments must come from accounts in your own name; third-party accounts are not accepted. Completing the economic profile and verification affects which methods are enabled.

If your bank delays or blocks international payments, Exness cannot change that. Withdrawal processing time can vary by payment method. See deposit and withdrawal methods and withdrawal time.

Minimum deposit in Costa Rica

Account typeFirst-deposit rule
Standard Cent, StandardLow, based on the payment method and the region of registration
Pro, Raw Spread, ZeroA minimum that depends on the region; at least USD 200 in some regions

Every method also has its own minimum that applies to every deposit, so the figure in your Deposit tab is the one that counts. Size positions with the stop-out level in mind (stop out guide) and read the minimum deposit guide.

Costa Rica's securities regulator has published a forex-specific notice that we could read:

  • The Superintendencia General de Valores (Sugeval) lists a "Comunicado Forex" on its investor alerts page, dated November 22, 2018. It was still listed on November 3, 2026. In summary, it says currency-trading offers made by Costa Rican or foreign companies can be high risk, that the chances of fraud or loss are high, that ways to recover money or make claims often fall outside the Costa Rican supervisory authorities and sometimes outside Costa Rican jurisdiction, and that these activities are outside the scope of Sugeval's regulation. It advises caution.
  • That notice does not name Exness, and the alerts page we read did not name Exness either. Sugeval's home page also says it has received reports about entities that claim to operate in or from Costa Rica without being registered in its national register of securities and intermediaries.
  • In plain terms, a Costa Rican client should not expect Sugeval to supervise or recover money from an offshore forex broker. The protection you have is the one set by the entity named in your client agreement, which is why you should read it.
  • Exness operates through several group companies authorised by different financial regulators around the world. The company that serves you is named in your client agreement and in the footer of your Personal Area. Check the current list on Exness's regulation page and confirm it on the regulator's own register. See Exness regulation.

We found no rule that bans a Costa Rican resident from holding a foreign trading account, but we did not search all Costa Rican law, so a local lawyer can confirm. Tax treatment of foreign trading income is outside what we verified; ask a Costa Rican accountant and keep records of deposits and withdrawals.

How to open an Exness account from Costa Rica

  1. Register with your email, choose Costa Rica as your country and set a password.
  2. Open a demo and test your plan with virtual funds (demo account guide).
  3. Verify. Upload a proof of identity (passport, national identity card or driver's licence; it must stay valid for at least three months after upload) and a proof of address issued in the last six months, such as a utility bill or bank statement. The names must match exactly. Verification can take up to 24 hours (verification guide).
  4. Create a live account in USD and choose the type and platform (account types).
  5. Deposit a small amount from an account in your name, and test a withdrawal early.
  6. Trade with a stop-loss on MT4, MT5 or the Exness Trade app (app guide).

Because Spanish support is not listed, plan to contact Exness in English or rely on the screens and help articles (customer support).

Market hours in Costa Rica (UTC-6)

Costa Rica stays on UTC-6 all year with no daylight saving (checked against the IANA time zone database for America/Costa_Rica). Exness published a schedule change for the end of US daylight saving time on November 1, 2026: forex pairs now open on Sunday at 22:05 UTC and close on Friday at 21:59 UTC (Help Center, article 31342732737180). Metals, energies and indices have their own hours.

Event (forex pairs)San Jose time
Weekly open (Sunday 22:05 UTC)Sunday 16:05
Weekly close (Friday 21:59 UTC)Friday 15:59

The market closes on Friday afternoon and opens on Sunday afternoon, so a weekend gap can hit an open position. From the second Sunday of March the Exness schedule moves one hour earlier, so check the instrument page in your Personal Area. Spreads can vary and widen with volatility, news and market open/close. See Exness trading hours.

Leverage, risk and scams

Maximum leverage depends on your equity and the entity serving you (leverage guide) and magnifies losses as well as gains (risk management). Be wary of anyone who offers to "manage" your account or guarantees returns, and never share your password or a one-time code. Contact Exness only through your Personal Area.
