Forex Trading in Thailand (2026): BOT and SEC Rules, THB, Tax

Short answer: two Thai authorities matter for forex trading in Thailand. The Bank of Thailand (BOT) administers foreign exchange control, and its website says that purchases, sales, exchanges and transfers of foreign currency must be done through persons licensed by the Minister of Finance. SEC Thailand licenses securities and derivatives businesses and publishes investor alerts about unlicensed operators. We found no SEC Thailand licence category for retail forex or CFD brokers, so brokers serving Thai traders are usually regulated abroad. That makes the company in your client agreement, the Thai-baht (THB) funding route and your own tax position the three things to check before you deposit.

Sources: the Bank of Thailand foreign exchange regulations pages, SEC Thailand, the Exness Help Center and law-firm summaries of Revenue Department orders, checked November 6, 2026. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.

What the Bank of Thailand regulates

The BOT has been entrusted by the Ministry of Finance with administering foreign exchange. Its foreign exchange regulations page states that, to comply with the Exchange Control Law, all foreign exchange transactions, including the purchase, sale, exchange or transfer of foreign currencies, are to be conducted with persons who hold foreign exchange licences granted by the Minister of Finance. In practice, sending baht abroad to fund a trading account normally goes through your bank, which applies its own documentation rules.

What we could not settle from the BOT pages is whether trading margin forex or CFDs with an overseas company falls inside or outside these rules for an individual. Ask your bank, and a Thai lawyer if the amount is large.

What SEC Thailand regulates

The Securities and Exchange Commission, Thailand (SEC Thailand) licenses securities and derivatives businesses and runs an Investor Alert service on unlicensed operators (sec.or.th). In a September 2022 statement reported by Nation Thailand, the SEC said it has no authority to supervise foreign exchange. We did not read the SEC's own text, so check its site for the current position. We found no SEC Thailand licence category for retail forex or CFD brokers.

Two consequences:

  • Absence of a Thai licence is not the same as a broker being unregulated. Many brokers are regulated in another country. Name the company in your agreement and find it on that country's register.
  • Investor alerts are the place to look for scams. Search the alert pages for the company name, in English and in Thai, and note the date.

How to check a broker if you live in Thailand

  1. Find the legal entity in the client agreement or the footer of your Personal Area, not just the brand.
  2. Look it up on its regulator's register and read the permitted activities.
  3. Search SEC Thailand's alerts for the brand and entity names.
  4. Check the complaint route and whether it works for a Thai resident.
  5. Ignore unsolicited "account managers" and promises of fixed returns.

For a table of brokers Thai traders search for, see forex brokers in Thailand.

Thai baht (THB) accounts and funding

The Exness Help Center ("Trading account currencies", updated October 20, 2026) lists THB as an account currency for Standard, Pro, Raw Spread and Zero accounts; Standard Cent uses a cent currency (THC). It adds that market execution on Pro accounts is available only in USD, JPY, THB, CNY, IDR and VND. The currency is fixed when the account is created.

ChoiceWhat it means
THB accountProfit and loss in baht; no conversion on baht deposits and withdrawals
USD accountPip values are dollar-based; baht is converted on the way in and out

Exness support is available 24/7 in Thai as well as English (Help Center, "How do I contact Exness?"). The Help Center does not publish payment methods by country; the Deposit tab in your Personal Area shows what is available to you, with limits and processing times. Payments must come from an account in your own name. The BOT's December 2025 circular on documents for large inbound foreign currency, reported by Silk Legal, applies to large amounts of foreign currency received from abroad, which may be relevant if a withdrawal arrives in dollars, so keep documents showing where the money came from. We did not read the circular itself, and we have not confirmed how it applies to trading withdrawals.

Thailand time (UTC+7) and market hours

Thailand is on UTC+7 all year. Exness published a schedule for the end of US daylight saving time on November 1, 2026: forex pairs open on Sunday at 22:05 UTC and close on Friday at 21:59 UTC (Help Center, article 31342732737180).

Event (forex pairs)Bangkok time
Weekly open (Sunday 22:05 UTC)Monday 05:05
Weekly close (Friday 21:59 UTC)Saturday 04:59

From the second Sunday of March the Exness schedule moves one hour earlier. The London session starts in the afternoon and evening in Bangkok, and the New York session runs overnight; plan for sleep, because a position left open overnight carries risk. See Exness trading hours.

Tax on forex trading in Thailand

The Revenue Department administers personal income tax. We did not find a Revenue Department page written for retail forex gains, so how your trading profit is classified is a question for a Thai tax adviser. What law-firm summaries say about money coming into the country:

  • Revenue Department orders Por. 161/2566 and Por. 162/2566 apply from January 1, 2024. For a tax resident, foreign-sourced assessable income earned from that date can be taxed in the year it is brought into Thailand, whenever it is remitted (Mahanakorn Partners summary).
  • Exemptions, double tax agreements and foreign tax credits can change the result.
  • We did not read the orders themselves.

Keep a record of deposits, withdrawals and closed trades. General background is in our forex tax guide.

Steps to start

  1. Check the company as above.
  2. Open a demo and test your plan (demo account guide).
  3. Verify with proof of identity and address (verification guide).
  4. Fund from an account in your own name; test a small withdrawal early.
  5. Trade small with a stop-loss. Leverage magnifies losses (risk management).
